Welcome to CrisisWiki!

The goal of the wiki is to create an editable directory of resources related to disasters and crises around the world. What sets CrisisWiki apart from other disaster wikis is that we intend to design the wiki so it can accommodate resources for any disaster, rather than just one specific event, as well as aggregate local, state, national and international emergency preparedness resources before a disaster strikes. For more information on CrisisWiki, please see our project wiki. Our discussion area is the CrisisWiki Google Group. For realtime collaboration, use IRC channel #crisiswiki on Freenode.net. If you don't have an IRC client, use IRC webchat.

What kind of resources are we looking for?

  • Summaries of news resources. News websites, blogs and other relevant resources.
  • Getting help during or after an emergency. Websites and phone numbers related to getting assistance, including getting food, water, shelter or medical attention.
  • Giving help during or after an emergency. Ways to donate money or supplies, volunteer, and assist in other ways.
  • Preparing for a disaster. Emergency preparedness resources including evacuation routes, weatherproofing tips, etc.

How can you help?

  1. Let people know what city, state or country you plan to research by editing our Research Assignments page.
  2. Add a city, state or country by clicking on the continent it resides in and following the directions on each page: Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australasia, Europe, North America, South America.
  3. Add resources for a city, state or country:
    • Find the page for a geographic location by using the search box or the browse list below. If the page doesn't exist, follow the above directions.
    • Please enter resources on the page that best represents their geographic reach. Local evacuation routes would be entered on the page for your city, for example. Be sure to include identifying information in the title of your resource so that users can tell the difference between shelters in different cities. You can see the Wikipedia style guide for more information on titling.
    • Do a search to see if the resource already exists. If it does, modify it to add the areas that it covers.
    • Pick the resource sub-types that match the resource you are adding. If you are adding a resource that provides a wide range of services, please select only "General Aid" or pick 1-2 sub-types to place the resource under.

Adding Resource Sub-types

Edit the Resource Sub Type page and add an allows value entry to the list.
